To get there, in this series van Steen steps out of her usual flat spaces and crisp outlines.
She invites us into the realm of textures, forms and patterns which build up to a deepness around the images of the female heads.
Referring to her roots, she incorporates locally foraged wild plants element.
The almost sculptural play of negative spaces is quite far from what van Steen’s work is well known for,
yet she seems to take this new form of visually relating very naturally.
