These portraits are the result of 1 month of taking artistic freedom in a gigantic artstudio

A mental health institution in the Netherlands offers 1 month residencies for international artists

to add liveliness and interacction for and with the residents.

maintenance and taking care of original acrylic painting

FUN FACT:
Landpark Assisië is huge!
It has over 200 residents, who not only live there, yet many of them also have jobs there.
They take care of the animals, they serve at the restaurant or they paint on canvas!

I was in total awe of how well these people were taken care of.

On this photo you see how residents are taken on cart-rides.

Being around farm animals was also a new experience for me, it’s a total game changer.

These are the semi-abstract portrait paintings I made there:

The style of these paintings is quite different to the usual portraits I paint because
I used a totally opposite process:
With these paintings, I started with an abstract background.

Once having this rich textured background,
I would slowly let the faces emerge with the more lighter colors.

(hence the title of the collection: Misty heads)
It was a very exiting turn-around.

Check out this link. I show you around in that creative process,
It will be my please to show you how I painted these!
